Only two weeks ago at the DJ Mag Top 100 Awards in Amsterdam, Dutch DJ, producer and musician, Martin Garrix was crowned the World’s #1 DJ. At 20 years old, he is the youngest DJ to ever hold the top spot. But instead of taking time off to celebrate, Martin Garrix has returned to India for a groundbreaking charity event, with a purpose – to educate Indian children.

“It just shows you how grounded Martin is,” says Shailendra Singh, Jt MD of Percept and Inceptor of Sunburn. “Even after becoming world #1, he agreed to take time from his schedule to come to India and donate his performance for children’s education. He didn’t hesitate to say ‘yes, let’s do this!’.He’s accomplished so much, but this shows you what’s important to him.”

Over 40,000 Indian fans showed up on Nov 10 at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse to support him in his endeavor and see him perform – one the largest dance music events to ever happen in the country. Before he even hit the stage, Martin Garrix joined Shailendra Singh in presenting a donation check to Matthew Spacie, founder of Magic Bus.

“We couldn’t be more thankful to Martin Garrix and Shailendra,” share Matthew Spacie. “Through this donation, we will be able to support10,000 children in communities all across India, in our program. This is the kind of support that is helping to ensure that 99% of our children stay in school and continue on a path to livelihood.”

200 Magic Bus children were present to celebrate the donation handover, and felicitate Martin Garrix and Shailendra Singh.

“We wanted Martin to be able to really feel the impact that he is making for these 10,000 children,” says Shailendra Singh. “The Magic Bus children got to thank him, and Martin got to witness how his one act, can change the lives of so many.”
