Radio Mirchi Launches Mirchi Mehfil, the online radio station


Radio Mirchi has a special treat for the Young Ghazal lovers. Mirchi Mehfil, a 24X7 Internet Ghazal radio station, was launched by the famous Ghazal Duo, Roop Kumar & Sunali Rathod. Talking about the launch, they said – “we are very happy to be a part of Radio Mirchi’s initiative to revive and popularise the genre of Ghazal, with the help of today’s technology. We are very excited to reach out to the youth of today to make them understand and appreciate good quality poetry and music”. Sunali Rathod and Roopkumar Rathod have worked closely with Radio Mirchi to design the sound of the station, and even sung the station Jingle. They will also be hosting a weekend show on the station.

The art of Ghazal, and appreciation for Urdu is getting a new boost with the launch of the station. Commenting on the launch, Rahul Balyan, Head of Digital initiatives at Radio Mirchi said – ‘Ghazal is a unique art form and Urdu is a Heritage of the Indian subcontinent. We have given it a modern platform in the form of an online radio station. With its sharp and crisp expressions, Ghazals can be highly appealing to the twitter generation of today. We aim to present it in all its traditional romantic appeal with a modern touch, and make it available to connoisseur of poetry and Ghazals across the world. With each of our online stations we aim to create the world’s best product, and are happy to have the association of Roop Kumar and Sunali Rathod in this project. We will to continue to expand our offerings in partnership with Gaana, stay tuned.’

The station is designed for the young, upwardly mobile, tech savvy listener, who is always on the move. It has segments like the Urban Ghazal dictionary, which will make the Ghazal nuances easy to understand. The idea is to build appreciation for the Genre. There will be a big social media promotion plan around the station too to build an online community around the Genre.

The young guns of the music industry are also very excited about the launch. Mika Singh, who is known for his Up-tempo Party music said “I have grown up listening to Jagjit Singh Ji & Ghulam Ali Sahab. Also, not too many people know that I sing and enjoy Ghazals myself too. I am very excited about the Mirchi Mehfil’s launch over the internet, which will make it accessible to me anywhere I am.”

With the launch of Mirchi Mehfil, Radio Mirchi has taken its offering in the online radio space to 15 different genre based radio stations, which can all be consumed on Gaana.
