Ogilvy India has crafted a compelling campaign for PhonePe’s Mutual Funds business, reinforcing its mission: to make investing simpler, smarter, and more accessible for millions across India.
Catering to a rapidly expanding demographic of digital-first users seeking intuitive financial solutions, PhonePe empowers consumers to confidently invest in Mutual Funds. This is made possible through the dedicated support of its expert team and proprietary CRISP scorecard, which meticulously analyses and recommends top funds, allowing even first-time investors to navigate their financial journey with confidence and ease. Building on this commitment to making investing more approachable, PhonePe Mutual Funds has also introduced an interesting feature – the Daily Mutual Funds SIP – enabling investors to start with as little as ₹10 a day and cultivate a disciplined investment habit effortlessly.
To convey this compelling proposition in a way that resonates widely and entertains profoundly, Ogilvy India has conceptualised a distinctive campaign, masterfully blending humour with deep cultural relatability.
The first film unfolds in the spirited setting of a traditional akhada (wrestling arena), where victorious wrestlers are basking in the glory of a local competition. As the triumphant lead wrestler accepts his winning cheque, a well-meaning advisor suggests investing the sum wisely rather than spending it rashly. With a calm, knowing smile, the wrestler confidently replies, “Meri Team Hai Na” (I have my team, don’t I?). This triggers a hilariously exaggerated fantasy for the advisor: a chaotic stock exchange floor populated by burly wrestlers hilariously attempting to decipher complex financial data. The comic delusion shatters as the wrestler clarifies his actual meaning: he refers not to his wrestling entourage, but to his PhonePe team – seasoned experts who leverage the CRISP scorecard to meticulously identify and recommend suitable funds.
Mirroring this comedic premise, the second film transports viewers to the vibrant world of a nukkad natak (street play), drawing inspiration from rich Indian folklore. Here, a charismatic stage performer, after receiving his prize, is offered similar counsel about prudent investment. He too offers the reassuring “Meri Team Hai Na.” And once more, the advisor’s imagination spirals into a ludicrous vision of the performer’s theatrical troupe haphazardly dispensing financial wisdom, before the impactful reveal: the truly dependable “team” is PhonePe’s dedicated financial experts, not his fellow artists.
Both films brilliantly juxtapose the familiar, traditional concept of community “teams” with PhonePe’s sophisticated, expert-backed financial team. This clever narrative effectively reinforces the core message: that investors are fully supported by credible, data-driven expertise, to navigate the complexities in the world of Mutual Funds investments.
Commenting on the campaign, Sukesh Nayak – Chief Creative Officer, Ogilvy India, said, “In India, we grow up believing that when you have a good team behind you, you’re never alone. That cultural truth shaped this campaign. ‘Meri Team Hai Na’ is a line we’ve all used, and we brought that reassurance into the world of investing with humour and exaggeration to show that PhonePe’s expert team has your back. Abhinav Pratiman from Earlyman Films brought the idea to life beautifully, blending cultural nuance and cinematic flair to make investing feel far less daunting and far more approachable.”
Extending this narrative universe, two additional short films spotlight the Daily Mutual Funds SIP feature through the same characters and settings. In the Akhada, the disciplined team leader is seen leading his squad through rigorous uthak-baithak (sit-ups), drawing a powerful parallel between his unwavering physical training and his commitment to investing daily. Just as strength is built through small, consistent repetitions, wealth too grows through disciplined, everyday contributions — starting from as little as ₹10 a day. In the folklore-inspired setting, performers don exaggerated bear and bull masks, playfully symbolising market volatility. Amidst theatrical swings between the “bear” and the “bull”, the central message lands clearly: regardless of market fluctuations, consistency is the key.
Together, these films simplify the idea of investing by anchoring it in everyday discipline and culturally resonant storytelling, driving home the message that with Daily Mutual Funds SIP, consistency – even in the smallest amounts – builds lasting financial momentum.
Amit Doshi – Chief Marketing Officer, PhonePe, said, “With ‘Mutual Funds bhi, ab PhonePe’, we are taking a significant step towards democratizing wealth creation in India. We understand that many new-age investors hold back not because of lack of ambition but owing to confusion and hesitation. By combining our proprietary CRISP methodology with simple tools like Daily Mutual Funds SIP starting at just Rs. 10, we are addressing both decision paralysis and inertia. We are building a platform that makes investing jargon free and builds confidence, helping users take the first step with clarity. Our goal is to turn complexity into clarity and enable investors to move from hesitation to action with a complete peace of mind.”
Through this campaign, PhonePe reinforces its commitment to democratising financial services for India – combining technology, expert insight and cultural storytelling to empower every Indian to confidently own their investment journey.
