Smart Transport: Easy Mobility for Better Living

To implement Prime Minister Modi’s vision of smart cities, there is need for ‘Smart Transportation’ to develop sustainable mobility for the masses. An estimated investment of $23 trillion is required for metro, rail, bus & other associated infrastructure over the period of next 20 years for efficient public transport systems in India.

The Government of India has announced a budget of Rs. 1,400 crore (USD 200 million) over the next two years on incentives and subsidies for manufacturers and buyers of electric vehicles to target six million electric vehicles on Indian roads by 2020. Also, the government has plans for electric vehicle charging stations in all urban areas and along all state and national highways by 2027.

To assist in transforming the Indian transportation landscape, Exhibitions India Group is organizing the 1st Smart Transport India 2016 expo, co-located with 2nd Smart Cities India 2016 expo. This three-day long exhibition and conference will be held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, from 11-13 May 2016.

  • The automotive industry is passing from an era of the internal combustion engine to electric mobility on account of the impact on environment degradation due to climatic change
  • In India, the transportation sector alone accounts for more than one-third of the country’s total crude oil consumption out of which more than 80% is consumed by road transportation
  • India’s current road network is increasingly insufficient to support the rapid economic growth in the country
