Mukul Dev returns to TV with 21 Sarfarosh: Saragarhi 1897
Mukul Dev, the well-known Hindi films and TV actor, is all set to return on the small screen after a gap of more than decade with a fiction show ’21 Sarfarosh: Saragarhi 1897’ on the new entertainment channel ‘Discovery JEET’. Mukul will play the antagonist Gul Badshah, a tribal Afghan leader who hails from the Pashtun mountain belt and fights against the Indian soldiers. The stellar cast of the show also includes Mohit Raina in the main lead as Havildar Ishar Singh and Luke Kenny as Major Des Voeux.
Produced by Abhimanyu Singh’s Contiloe Pictures Pvt. Ltd, 21 Sarfarosh: Saragarhi 1897 is a fiction show inspired by the real-life story of 21 brave soldiers of 36th Sikh regiment of the British Indian Army which defended an army outpost at Saragarhi in the North-West Frontier Province against an onslaught by over 10,000 Pashtun and Orakzai tribals in September 1897. The channel ropes in Mohit Raina as well for the show.
To get his accent and pronunciation right, Mukul is taking lessons from his father and friends. Not only this, he is determined to impress everyone with his never seen before avatar, donning long kaftans, salwars, a tribal pagadi and surma in his eyes.
Speaking about his role, Mukul, said, “I was looking for a project that is dramatic, compelling and unlike from what is being currently shown on TV. When I got this offer from Discovery JEET, I was sure that it will be differentiated. And, since the battle of Saragarhi is a landmark in our history, I immediately agreed to be a part of it.”
“I have been exposed to the Afghan culture since childhood. My father knows how to speak in Pashtun and Persian and he helped me to get the correct pronunciation and diction… it’s a Hindi serial so I have given it my personal touch too,” adds Mukul Dev.
