Pratilipi’s Double Tap Films Announces ‘THE MISFITS’; First Branded Microdrama, Exclusively on ShareChat

Double Tap Films, India’s first data-backed microdrama studio, has commenced production on “THE MISFITS,” a college drama and coming-of-age series set against India’s gaming and streaming culture. The show is commissioned exclusively for ShareChat, marking Double Tap Films’ first branded microdrama.

Set on a college campus, “THE MISFITS” follows a timid freshman who finds his voice through gaming and streaming, quietly overcoming personal hardships to build the most sought-after gamers’ community on campus, from nothing. The series blends coming-of-age campus drama with the fast-growing world of Indian gaming and creator culture.

The partnership brings together two of India’s largest mobile-first audiences: Double Tap Film‘s fast-growing base of microdrama viewers and ShareChat’s network of 325 million-plus monetizable users across 15-plus Indian languages. Within that ecosystem, ShareChat and Moj’s micro-dramas alone draw more than 60 million monthly active users and generate approximately 900 million daily episode plays, making it one of India’s largest destinations for creator-led, short-form serialized entertainment. DTF’s first branded microdrama, “THE MISFITS” is designed to be built for ShareChat’s audience from the ground up, rather than adapted for it after the fact. The series will also tie into the India launch of “Gangstar Mirage City,” an upcoming title from Tencent’s global gaming brand Level Infinite dedicated to delivering engaging and original gaming experiences to a worldwide audience, with both having launched on ShareChat and Moj from August 20, 2026.

“With THE MISFITS, we’re taking Double Tap Films into branded storytelling for the first time, and ShareChat is the right exclusive partner for that first step. Their platform speaks directly to the same young, mobile-first, audience that fuels India’s gaming and streaming culture, so this partnership was built around that audience rather than bolted onto a show after the fact. Ujjwal’s own journey mirrors the show’s core idea: that consistency and community can turn a quiet start into something massive. The story is inspired by a Pratilipi original, but we’ve rebuilt it from the ground up for ShareChat’s audience, and for how young audiences actually watch and play today.” Said Sharlton Menezes, Vice President IP & Key Partnerships, Pratilipi & Double Tap Films

“We’re proud to partner with Pratilipi and Double Tap Films for this engaging micro-drama that brings together two of India’s biggest passions, gaming and storytelling. THE MISFITS combines the scale of Techno Gamerz, the immersive world of Gangstar Mirage City, and the strength of the ShareChat ecosystem to create a first-of-its-kind gaming micro-drama. It’s a glimpse of where we see entertainment heading, formats built collaboratively with creators and brands, designed to meet digital-first audiences on their own terms.” Said Neha Markanda, Chief Business Officer, ShareChat and Moj

The series stars Ujjwal Chaurasia, popularly known as Techno Gamerz, one of India’s leading gaming creators. Techno Gamerz has over 52.5 million subscribers on YouTube, and became the first individual gaming YouTuber from Asia to cross 50 million subscribers, a milestone he reached in February 2026.

The series is loosely inspired by “Juddho Juddho Khela” (Game of War), a Bengali story by author Sulagna Mitra on Pratilipi, which follows a group of engineering students whose lives are upended by a video game. On the platform, the 16-chapter story holds a 4.9/5.0 rating and has been read more than 20,700 times. Double Tap Film’s writers’ room has reimagined the premise for a college campus setting, retaining the game-as-catalyst core while building an original story around gaming and streaming culture.

“THE MISFITS” is designed as a fresh take on the microdrama format: fast-paced, visually dynamic storytelling built around quick, energetic cuts that keep pace with the platform’s short-form viewing habits, without losing the emotional intensity core to the genre. The show also integrates real gameplay footage directly into the narrative, making gaming an active storytelling device rather than a backdrop.
