“Currently, Top 1-2% of the artiste take 90% of the revenue”: Keerthivasan Subramaniam, Founder & CEO, Playtoome

Brief Profile:

A live entertainment platform app, Playtoome is on a mission to connect artists with their fans irrespective of boundaries. There aren’t many live performance entertainment options for tier 2 and tier 3 cities. The company boasts to have a platform being served for the performing artists to get connected and earn their acknowledgment from people while widening their reach.

In a conversation with Mr. Keerthivasan Subramaniam, Founder & CEO, Playtoome, we got to know about their hurdles and plans for 2021. Read on.


Q) What stroked the idea of making an app addressing live performance? Please take us through the journey?

There aren’t many live performance entertainment options for tier 2 and tier 3 cities. Also, with the digital era taking over, there is a good scope for performing artists to get the much due acknowledgment from their audience and widen their reach in the most convenient manner. The great gap between the demand and supply side of this particular genre stroked the idea of making an app addressing the live performance. Space is now being explored by Playtoome. As a fact, in all the H1N1 households in India, at least one member of the family has or still learns any form of performing arts, however, there comes a juncture where they need to focus on making a living for themselves as there is no financial viability available to them out of their passion. Playtoome bridges this gap.

Q) The platform garners many viewers as well as artists. Can you please take us through the demographics?

We have an average login time of 35 mins, with 70% of our viewers between the age group of 18 to 34. We have 60% male and 40% Female visitors on our site, also we have a repeat audience of around 20% with an international audience base of 10% predominantly in the US & Middle East.

Q) What are the approaches you are adopting to extend your reach in other cities or say smaller cities?

We are majorly focusing on Tier 2 & tier 3 cities. Also, we are currently in the process of developing facility centers, talent acquisition programs in all the Tier 2,3 cities, and even rural segments of the country. We have more than 25K artists from these cities.

Q) Is there any monetization involved? Can the artists or audience earn something while performing or watching the show?

Yes, We work on a revenue share model with all our artists, giving them an opportunity to earn using their performance. A fan can watch a performance by his or her favourite artiste by paying a minimal fee to enter the show on the platform. The revenue generated from the performances is shared with the artiste – 50% – 70%. Currently, Top 1-2% of the artiste take 90% of the revenue. The platform monetizes through ticket sales, personalized shows, and virtual gifts.

Q) What are your plans for the year 2021? What are your future plans and programs?

We plan to open Playtoome centers across the country along with creating a global ecosystem for the performers and the performance seekers. Also, we aim at reaching a mark of over 1 lac artists on our platform. Also, we are looking at exploring content partnerships.
