Frugal Innovation – How to do better with less by Navi Radjou & Jaideep Prabhu
Publishers Hachette India today released the much awaited book, FRUGAL INNOVATION – ‘How to do better with less’. The book is authored by the award winning duo of ‘Jugaad Innovation’, Navi Radjou and Jaideep Prabhu.
“In the “age of scarcity,” companies are facing the pressure from consumers, employees, and governments, to create first-rate, affordable, and sustainable products—with less. Less energy, less capital, less time, thus creating the model for business success: FRUGAL INNOVATION, the ability to “do more with less.” – said Navi Radjou, The Author of Frugal Innovation.
Hachette India Publisher Poulomi Chatterjee said, “This is an outstanding book, identifying the best practices employed by frugal pioneers across sectors including manufacturing, retail, financial services, health care and education.”
For their first book, Silicon Valley consultant Navi Radjou and Co-Author Jaideep Prabhu borrowed the popular Hindi word ‘Jugaad’ for a clever, improvised solution for the title of their book, Jugaad Innovation, about how the West can learn from entrepreneurs in India and elsewhere who get creative in the face of scarcity. This book had a very close connection with frugal innovation as the businesses are getting more and more creative in the face of scarcity.
“Emerging markets have shown that successful innovation must lead to improvements in quality, reduction in cost, making products and services that are easier to use, and be scalable. These concepts are being increasingly embraced by global companies as they seek growth outside their traditional markets and customer segments. This book is an excellent addition to the authors’earlier work on innovation in emerging markets, showcasing how western corporations too are adapting to evolving consumer needs.” said, Chanda Kochhar, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, ICICI Bank Limited.
“Doing more with less” has been the de facto cultural norm in developing economies for ages. These winds of frugal innovation are now blowing westwards in the VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) world, a phenomenon very powerfully captured by Radjou and Prabhu in their new book. Not only do the authors provide a compelling case for “frugal innovation” but more importantly provide simple-to-understand and practical mechanisms to deploy this strategy in organizations.” said, Vineet Nayar, Former CEO, HCL Technologies & Founder, Sampark Foundation.
Corporate India’s guide to reclaiming global leadership in frugal innovation by generating greater economic and social value while minimizing the use of scarce resources, the book features over 50 case studies from among the world’s top companies across sectors – American Express, Ford, GE, IBM, Levi Strauss, Marks & Spencer, Novartis, Pearson, PepsiCo, Renault-Nissan, Siemens and Unilever.
‘Frugal Innovation’ releases as hardback and eBook simultaneously on 14th February, 2015. The release will be followed by the Indian leg of a global author tour covering six cities.
