Munawar Faruqui Steals the Show at The Society Launch, Shares Lessons from Salman & Kangana

TLDR: JioHotstar launched its new reality show ‘The Society’, premiering July 21, featuring host Munawar Faruqui who shared insights from Salman Khan and Kangana Ranaut, and discussed the show’s social experiment theme of class hierarchy.

JioHotstar hosted an exclusive launch event yesterday for its upcoming reality show The Society, set to premiere on July 21. The evening featured a high-energy live performance by host Munawar Faruqui, along with Miss Rule a.k.a Shreya Kalra who engaged with the media and attendees, offering a first-hand glimpse into the show’s unique world. The event introduced key contestants, Amir Hossein, Azma Fallah, Arohi Khurrana, Gargee K, Prateik Jain, Anoushka Chauhan, and Noorin Shah, each bringing a distinct personality and dynamic to the game, setting the stage for a compelling show ahead.

In a candid conversation during the event, Munawar shared insights from working with some of the industry’s biggest names. “One thing I learnt from Kangana is professionalism, she’s never late. That made me realise punctuality is possible. Like today, I showed up on time,” he joked. On the other hand and more importantly from Salman Bhai, I’ve learnt kindness. He’s incredibly generous and empathetic. I don’t think I could ever match that, but I try. At the very least, I try not to trouble people around me.

When asked if he would ever host Bigg Boss, Munawar smiled and said, “Voh joh kar paate hai weekend ke vaar pe, koi aur nahi kar sakta.”

Speaking about the show and his relatability with the show, Munawar added, “I’ve stood in every line, from ration queues to bank lines, and that’s given me a unique perspective. People often romanticize both sides. There’s a certain high in being rich, but there’s also a strange resilience in being poor. In The Society, we’ve condensed a lifetime of those experiences into 200 intense hours. We have 25 players, and across those 200 hours, they’ll live through every category, Royals, Regulars, and Rags. They won’t just observe privilege or hardship, they’ll feel it, fight it, and survive it. We’ve tried to capture that journey in a few episodes and I truly hope audiences connect with that.”

Set as a social experiment unlike any other, The Society divides its contestants into three classes: Royals, Regulars, and Rags each with its own level of privilege and access. While the hierarchy sets the stage, the real challenge lies in breaking it. With strategy, adaptability, and sharp social gameplay, contestants must rise through the ranks to claim the ultimate title of Asli Baazigar. The show mirrors real-world power shifts, making every move a reflection of ambition and survival.

The Society premieres July 21, exclusively on JioHotstar.
