To make language learning fun, free, and truly accessible, Duolingo, the world’s leading language learning platform, has partnered with Glance, the world’s leading smart lock screen platform. This partnership is launched under Glance’s social impact initiative Glance for Good (G4G), which leverages the power of Glance Smart Lock Screens to foster personal growth and drive positive social change.
By embedding Duolingo’s gamified English lessons into Glance Smart Lock Screens, the two platforms are reimagining how young Indians access education—making learning a seamless part of daily life. Through this collaboration, Duolingo’s English upskilling content is seamlessly embedded into Glance Smart Lock Screens, enabling learners to discover bite-sized, gamified learning moments—like vocabulary puzzles, word challenges, and quick proficiency tests—right from their phone’s lock screen. In just a few easy steps, learners can register for courses and continue their learning journey on the Duolingo app.
Within three months of launch, Duolingo’s content on Glance Smart Lock Screens has garnered over 720 million glances, highlighting India’s strong appetite for engaging and convenient English learning tools.
Talking about this collaboration, Karandeep Singh Kapany, Regional Marketing Director, Duolingo, said, “At Duolingo, our focus is on keeping things simple, engaging, and effective—so that anyone, anywhere, can make real progress. We are committed to making language learning widely accessible and enjoyable for all, and we’re always looking for new and innovative formats to reach our learners where they are. This partnership with Glance is exciting because it brings bite-sized English learning directly to millions of lock screens, making upskilling in English effortless, interactive, and a natural part of their daily routine.”
“At Glance, we believe learning can unlock new opportunities for everyone – access to knowledge, better jobs, and the wider world,” said Bikash Chowdhury, Chief Marketing Officer at Glance. “India ranks 69th in the EF English Proficiency Index, with less than 15% of the population who can speak English to some degree. Our partnership with Duolingo, which brings learning English to 200+ million lock screens in the country, is a step toward our larger mission: using technology to empower and drive real change.”
With English being the most-learned language on Duolingo globally and in India, the demand for accessible learning tools continues to grow. According to a recent YouGov study by Duolingo, 55% of Indians are learning new languages for professional and personal development, 45% for travel and cultural interest, 42% to connect with global communities, and 40% for entertainment—ranging from music and movies to gaming.
