TLDR: Mahatta & Co., a century-old Indian photography firm, is launching “Voices Behind the Frames,” an exclusive series to share rare stories and personal anecdotes behind their historical photographs, documenting India’s cultural journey from the Second World War to Independence and beyond.

Mahatta & Co., the century-old name synonymous with Indian photography, is launching an exclusive interaction series, “Voices Behind the Frames.” The series will uncover rare stories from India’s past moments the Mahatta family has been capturing for over four generations.

From documenting the Second World War to India’s first fashion show and iconic shoots like GMR Airports, Delhi and Goa. Mahatta & Co. has been a witness to history through its lens. The new series gives audiences a chance to be aware of the stories behind the images, blending personal anecdotes with visuals that shaped India’s cultural journey.

Over the decades, Mahatta & Co. has quietly chronicled some of the most defining moments in India’s history. They witnessed the Partition, with its stories of displacement and resilience; the Independence celebrations, when the tricolour rose against the Delhi sky for the first time; and the gradual evolution of Connaught Place, New Delhi from a colonial-era hub to the beating heart of modern Delhi. These images are not just photographs but living archives, reflecting the spirit of a nation in transition. Each frame tells a layered story of struggle, hope, and transformation preserved for generations through Mahatta’s unwavering eye behind the lens.

“Through Voices Behind the Frames, we want to share the unseen side of historical moments where the camera became both a witness and a storyteller,” said Mr. Arjun Mahatta, Partner, Mahatta & Co. “Photography has always been more than just images for us—it is about preserving emotions, history, and identity,” He added.

This series of interaction will go beyond images to uncover the hidden stories, personal anecdotes, and cultural insights that make each frame timeless. Through engaging interviews, the series offers a chance to hear directly from those who stood behind the camera—turning photography into living history.
