The 12th Smule Mirchi Music Awards celebrated at Yash Raj Studios

The star-studded musical night which is also India’s biggest musical extravaganza – the 12th Smule Mirchi Music Awards 2020– was held last night at Yash Raj Studios, Andheri. The night was hosted by Shekhar Ravjiani and Aparshakti Khurana, accompanied by Neeti Mohan. All of them got many compliments from the audience for the doing a great job of hosting. Many were in fact surprised by the hidden talent that Shekar has for hosting a show, for whom this was the very first hosting experience! Several Bollywood A-listers attended the red-carpet musical night which created a perfect blend of glamour and cinematic brilliance. Celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Tapsee Pannu, A R Rahman, Neha Bhasin, Shreya Ghoshal, Pritam, Amaal Malik, Talat Aziz, Ila Arun, Bappi Lahiri, Lalit Pandit, Jatin Pandit, Anandji, Sunny Leone, Urvashi Rautela, Raveena Tandon, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik, Sunidhi Chauhan, Rajakumari, Jasleen Royal, Amar Haldipur, Usha Mangeshkar, Lisa Mishra, Ramesh Sippy, Mayur Puri and Darmesh Darshan added to the glamour of the night and were good sports to engage in some fun conversation & games with the hosts. Jatin- Lalit, Pritam & many others expressed their heartfelt thanks to Mirchi for celebrating musicians every year, they also said, coming for the Mirchi Music awards felt like being home with the entire fraternity under one roof.

Some of the highlights of the evening were electrifying performances by Neha Kakkar, Vishal- Shekhar, AR Rahman, Darshan Raval and Meet Bros. Shilpa Rao, Kavita Seth, Kanika Kapoor & Aditi Paul gave a memorable performance singing songs of Deepika Padukone who was awarded the Make it Large award for her success in the industry. Bhoomi Trivedi, Akriti Kakkar, Shruti Pathak & Tapsee Pannu did a women empowerment act to celebrate the women of the industry. Mesmerising performances by Amit Kumar, Sachet – Parampara, Aaman Trikha, Hamsika Iyer, Asees Kaur, Paroma, Akasa Singh, Sohail Sen, Tulsi Kumar and Maithili Thakur kept the audience entertained throughout the evening. There were special gag sessions by Sunil Grover that had the audience in splits.

The Smule Mirchi Music Awards honoured musical talent across many categories. Song of the year was bagged by Kalank (title track), while Kesari got the award for Album of the year. Arijit Singh won the Male vocalist of the year for his soulful title track of Kalank. The very talented Shreya Ghoshal took home the award for Female vocalist for Ghar More Pardesiya (Kalank). The listener chose the song Bekhayali from Kabir Singh as the Listeners Choice Song of the year. Kalank was chosen as the Album of the year by listeners. Abhijeet Srivastava won the Upcoming male singer award for his song Chashni from Bharat, while Aakanksha Sharma excitedly took home the award for Upcoming female vocalist of the year. This year Mirchi added 2 new categories of awards, the Mirchi Social Media Icon of the year was won by Neha Kakkar who very proudly told the audience how she had got all her 33mn fans with her own efforts. The Mirchi Trendsetter Album of the year was very well deservingly won by Gully Boy. Amar Halidipur bagged the award for outstanding contribution to Hindi film music. The prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to none other than Usha Mangeshkar. On receiving the Award, she said, “I am indeed honoured to receive this award. I want to take this opportunity to thank my fans and colleagues for the love and support I have received from them over the years. It has been such a joy to be part of this amazing industry!”
