Capri Sports has formed a new CSR partnership with the Indian Rugby Football Union (Rugby India), the official governing body for rugby in India, to launch the Capri Warriorz Camp. The aim of this camp is to further develop the skills of youth women rugby players, aligning with Rugby India’s mission of reaching the Olympics.
“Supporting women athletes with interventions that improve their trajectory and performance has always been the goal for Capri Sports. We’re excited to partner with Rugby India to advance this shared objective and are certain these camps will aid in us getting the girls one step closer to the Olympics.” said Jinisha Sharma, Director, Capri Sports.
A member of World Rugby, Asia Rugby, and the Indian Olympic Association, Rugby India is responsible for developing the sport of rugby across the country. A vast majority of skilled rugby players hail from the hinterland of India. Despite their success at regional play-offs like the Asia Rugby U20 Championships, there have been hurdles along the way. A huge majority of these players are only engaged with the sport for a duration of 4-5 months in a year. The existing cohort of youth teams are therefore in need of more opportunities to hone their skills to the best of their potential.
“Capri Sports have always been at the forefront of the upliftmemt of girls and women through sport. We are delighted to partner with them on this initiative that will further mould the future of Indian women’s rugby. The Capri Warriorz Camp is a considerable step towards nurturing and empowering young female rugby talent in the country. Going forward, it is our collective aim to make this a progressive, sustainable initiative.” said Mr. Rahul Bose, President, Indian Rugby Football Union on the association.
The exclusive Capri Warriorz Camp shall further develop the foundation of the Indian Women’s team ecosystem, focusing specifically on aspects such as technical skills, strength and conditioning, nutritional aspects, and tactical game play.
In essence, this camp shall provide an additional opportunity for women in this cohort (U20), allowing them to sharpen their skills and become a part of in the Indian National High-performance ecosystem. The 20-day high-performance camp shall be in alignment with the standards of Indian National team camps, complete with a Head Coach (South Africa), Assistant Coach, Physiotherapist, Masseuse, Analyst, and Nutritionist.
